MTHL is 21.8 km six-lane sea bridge connecting Sewri in Mumbai with Chirle in Navi Mumbai. Out of 21.8 km, with 16.50 km over the sea and 5.5 km on land.

Construction began in April 2018, and it is completed and opened to the public in 12 January 2024.
Funding: 85% of its construction is being financed by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), which released the first tranche of INR 7910 crore (approx. $1.22 billion) in March 2017
L&T and Tata Projects are the main contractors for the project.

MTHL is expected to provide a much-needed alternative route for the heavily congested Mumbai-Pune Expressway and reduce travel time between the two cities from the current three hours to just 45 minutes.
Unique Features: Some of the unique features of the MTHL include an automated toll collection system and intelligent transport system.
The 6-lane highway will be 27 meters in width, in addition to two emergency exit lanes

The MMRDA estimates that more than 70,000 vehicles will use the bridge daily.
There are 7 spans of Orthotropic Steel Deck (OSD) ranging from 90m to 180m in length, which are being used on a bridge for the first time in India.
